Russia are hoping to put their poor World Cup campaign behind them by focusing their efforts on the 2016 European Championships. Managed by Fabio Capello, Russia crashed out early in this summer’s World Cup to the surprise of many, but they are now being backed to find their form in Euro 2016, starting with progressing through the qualifiers.

Their group has Sweden, Austria, Montenegro, Moldova and Liechtenstein. While Sweden will pose a threat, they have too been underwhelming in their failure to even make the 2014 World Cup, so Russia will consider their squad good enough to see past the five other sides.

Bet 365 are giving odds of 4/5 for Russia to win their qualifying group to earn safe passage into the tournament in two years time. There are plenty of games in the coming year to decide who will sit at the summit, but Capello’s side are the favourites to deliver despite coming off the back of tournament failure.
