Russian Premier League Wrap: CSKA win, Spartak, Rostov defeated

CSKA Moscow remain unbeaten, but Spartak and Rostov fell to their first Russian Premier League defeats of the season over the weekend.

Reigning champions CSKA were given a scare by bottom side Tom’ Tomsk in their trip to the Stadion Trud on Saturday, but eventually ran out 2-1 winners.

The home side, who have lost their opening six games, took an unexpected lead into half-time through Igor Portnyagin’s strike.

But Seydou Doumbia’s third goal of the campaign levelled the scores, before Ahmed Musa secured all three points for Leonid Slutsky’s side.

Rostov’s good run of form was brought to an abrupt end as two red cards saw them fall to a heavy 5-0 defeat away to Lokomotiv Moskow at the Stadion Lokomotiv.

Felipe Caicedo put the home side in the lead a minute before the half-time whistle, before a second-half rout stunned Rostov.

Kamil Agalarov received a straight red card before an Alexandr Samedov penalty began a run of three goals in nine minutes, with Maicon adding a third.

Igor Lolo then headed for an early bath for a second bookable offence, before Dmitriy Tarasov got his name on the scoresheet.

And former Tottenham striker Roman Pavlyuchenko completed the rout in the 83rd minute, as Leonid Kuchuk’s side moved up to second.

Also on Monday, Spartak Moscow slipped to fourth following their 2-1 defeat away to Amkar Perm’ at the Stadion Zvezda.

Georgi Peev opened the scoring for the hosts in the 17th minute, but Pavel Yakovlev notched an equaliser shortly after the break.

But Martin Jakubko restored the lead seven minutes after the hour, before Juan Insaurralde was sent off in the dying stages of the game to compound Spartak’s misery.

Elsewhere on Saturday, Alexander Kerzhakov scored a 93rd-minute equaliser to rescue a 1-1 draw for Zenit St Petersburg at Dinamo Moscow, after Balazs Dzsudzsak’s opener.

Meanwhile, Anzhi Makhachkala are still searching for their first win of the season as Gadzhi Gadzhiyev’s side were beaten 2-1 at home by Krasnodar.

Odil Akhmedov had put Anzhi in front in first-half injury time, but Mauricio Pereyra and Wanderson turned the game around in the second period.

In Saturday’s other fixture, Volga defeated Terek Grozny 1-0, while on Sunday Rubin Kazan were held to a 1-1 draw by Krylya Sovetov and Kuban’ Krasnodar were 3-2 victors at home to Ural.
