Santon denies Roma link

Newcastle full-back Davide Santon has moved to reject speculations linking him with a return to Italian Serie A.

The 21-year-old has returned into international fold following a one-and-a-half-year absence as he was called by Azzurri boss Cesare Prandelli for the friendly game against France.

After impressing at St James Park at the start of the new season, the highly rated defender has seen his name linked with a number of Italy’s top sides.

Roma were believed to be leading the race for the player’s signature, but Santon has rubbished the claims by saying he is perfectly happy at Newcastle.

“A move to Roma? No, I have a long contract and I’m just thinking of doing well for Newcastle,” Santon said in an interview with Il Corriere dello Sport.

Divide Santon successfully kick-started his career at St James Park and managed to return into international reckoning a year and a half since making the last of his seven Italy caps.

The talented defender has made a total of 35 Premier League appearances for the Magpies since joining the club from Inter in the summer of 2011.
