Schalke hoping to ward off Neuer suitors

Schalke are ready to offer Manuel Neuer a significant pay rise in an attempt to ward off interest from Manchester United and Bayern Munich.

The German club have been under pressure to sell their most prized asset amidst interest from big European clubs, especially as his contract expires in 2012.

Nonetheless, Schalke now plan to offer Neuer a new contract until 2013, under which he would earn €3 million per season as they believe this is the only way to keep him at Veltins Arena for at least one more year.

With Schalke largely struggling in Bundesliga, former Bayern Munich keeper Oliver Kahn has recently advised Neuer to join a big club if he wants to become Germany number one, but it remains to be seen whether Neuer will listen to him.
