Schalke join chase for Carlos Zambrano

German media outlet Bild understands that Schalke are readying a bid for Eintracht Frankfurt defender Carlos Zambrano.

The Miners recently found out that key defender Benedikt Howedes would miss around three months of action and with Matija Nastasic also sidelined, they are desperately searching for a high-quality stopper.

It is now clear that Joel Matip will not be allowed to leave despite the fact that his contract expires in the summer, while the latest reports suggest that Schalke could make a move on Carlos Zambrano.

The Peru international is widely regarded as one of Bundesliga’s leading centre-backs, and he has been heavily linked with a big club move.

But, seeing that Eintracht recently rejected a €7 million proposal for his services from Fiorentina, Schalke face an uphill task, especially knowing that they only have around €5 million left in the transfer budget.

It was at Schalke that Carlos Zambrano had began his professional career and he could now be returning for a second spell at Veltins Arena.
