Schalke have confirmed the signing of Tranquillo Barnetta from Bayer Leverkusen on a free transfer.
The Swiss international midfielder has signed a contract until June 2015 with the Veltins-Arena outfit.
“We’re delighted Tranquillo has opted to join us,” Schalke general manager Horst Heldt said.
“He has great qualities and is very versatile, as he has shown for both Leverkusen and Switzerland.”
Barnetta came through the ranks of the St Gallen youth academy before joining Leverkusen in 2004.
He was sent out on loan to Hannover in his first season, but went on to make 180 league appearances for Leverkusen, and has also earned 59 caps for his country.
