Paul Scharner is determined to return to Hamburg at the end of the season despite enjoying a successful loan period at Wigan.
The Austrian has fared well back at the DW Stadium since joining from the Bundesliga side on loan in January but insists he wants to play his football at the Imtech Arena.
The 33-year-old joined Hamburg last year after leaving West Brom but has not been able to establish himself as a regular first-team player at the German outfit.
“There has been no real change. I am due to be back at Hamburger SV this summer,” he told the Hamburger Morgenpost.
“It’s my utmost ambition to make a name for myself at Hamburger SV. Those experiences I am having in the Premier League are giving me an extra boost to do so.
“I am actually believing in my full strength again. I am a good player, if I am getting regular match action.”
Scharner’s agent, Valentin Hobel, confirmed that the Austrian will return to Germany.
“Paul has a contract at Hamburger SV. It would take a statement from the club to see him change his mind. He would change his mind if the club tells him he has no future at Hamburger SV,” he said.
