Niall McGinn’s first-half strike was enough for Aberdeen to register a 1-0 victory over Dundee in Scottish Premier League action on Friday.

McGinn scored with a powerful drive from outside the box in the 18th minute of a dreary contest at Pittodrie Stadium.

But the visitors had their chances late on to snatch a point, after Aberdeen were forced to play the final quarter of an hour with 10 men.

An injured Isaac Osbourne left the field with 15 minutes remaining, just moments after Aberdeen manager Craig Brown had made his third and final change.

Sensing an opportunity, Dundee boss Barry Smith introduced Colin Nish into the game but the veteran front man on loan from Hartlepool was unable to help his team find an equaliser.

McGinn’s winning goal was the Northern Irishman’s 17th of the season and moves Aberdeen up to fifth place on the table, just two points behind Inverness Caledonian Thistle in second.

Dundee remain rooted to the bottom, 15 points adrift of safety.
