St Mirren overturned a one goal half-time deficit to defeat Dundee United 4-3 in a thrilling Scottish Premier League game on Sunday.

After dominating the opening exchanges, visiting St Mirren broke the deadlock on 16 minutes when Paul Dummett turned in a Gary Teale cross.

However, with two minutes remaining in the first half Dummett turned from hero to villain after he hauled down Jon Daly in the penalty area to gift the hosts a penalty which was dually converted by Daly himself.

Dundee then made it two goals in three minutes, with Stuart Armstrong driving home from long range to give his side a 2-1 lead at half-time.

The Saints were not behind for long though, as Steven Thomson struck from close ranch five minutes after the restart to restore parity.

From there Danny Lennon’s side continued their momentum and regained the lead through a Marc McAusland volley from another Teale cross on 66 minutes.

Victory for the away side looked even more likely just three minutes later, when Brian McLean was shown a red card for a foul on Lewis Gray.

Teale then notched up his third assist of the afternoon, setting up David van Zanten for St Mirren’s fourth.

And despite Barry Douglas scoring for the home side in stoppage time, St Mirren were able to hold on to claim an important victory.

St Mirren now sit six points clear of bottom side Dundee in tenth spot, one point behind Dundee United, who are eighth on the table with 25 points.
