Motherwell strengthened their grip on second place in the Scottish Premier League after a comfortable 4-1 win over Hibernian on Friday.

After finding themselves down 1-0 at half-time thanks to a Tom Taiwo goal in the 23rd minute, Motherwell responded in stunning fashion with four second-half goals to the delight of the Fir Park faithful.

Michael Higdon drew the home side level just three minutes after the restart before James McFadden put the Steelmen in front on 54 minutes.

Stuart McCall’s side did not let up from there and were soon 3-1 ahead thanks to on-loan Huddersfield Town striker Kallum Higginbotham’s first goal for the club.

Tom Hateley rounded out the scoring in the 84th minute.

The result sees Motherwell move to within 12 points of league-leaders Celtic and jump five points clear of third-placed Ross County.

Hibs remain sixth with the rest of the weekend’s fixtures still to be played.
