Celtic closed the gap on Rangers at the top of the Scottish Premier League to four points with a 2-0 win over St Johnstone on Sunday.

After a goalless first half, Celtic were brought to life with goals from Gary Hooper and Ki Sung-Yeung just four minutes apart on the hour-mark.

Hooper had earlier been denied by St Johnstone goalkeeper Peter Enckelman in the first half but made no mistake on the second time of asking, prodding home a corner from close range.

South Korean Ki then fired in on 64 minutes to double Celtic’s advantage after a quick counter.

The win gave Celtic their eighth straight league win in the SPL and extended their unbeaten run to 12 games.

The Hoops went into the game knowing that a win was vital following Rangers’ 2-1 victory over Inverness CT on Saturday.

Celtic boss Neil Lennon stuck with the same line-up that gave Udinese a fright in the Europa League during the week.
