Hibernian were held to a 1-1 draw at Kilmarnock while a Ryan Stevenson double sent Hearts into the Scottish Premier League top six.

Paul Heffernan opened the scoring for Kilmarnock when he chipped Hibernian goalkeeper Ben Williams, who had parried Borja Perez’s free-kick.

Heffernan almost extended the lead not long after but his headed effort just glanced wide.

The visitors ensured they would leave Rugby Park with a point when Eoin Doyle pounced on Leigh Griffiths’s rebounded effort to level scores.

Doyle almost put Hibernian ahead on the stroke of half-time but was thwarted by Cameron Bell while Kilmarnock came closest to a winner when Paul Cairney’s shot was cleared off the line.

Hearts moved into the top six with a 2-1 win over Dundee United at Tynecastle.

Ryan Stevenson opened the scoring from close range on 15 minutes and then made it 2-0 just after the half-hour mark with a penalty after Dylan McGowan was fouled in the box by Barry Douglas.

United pulled a goal back on 57 minutes through Keith Watson but could not avoid succumbing to their seventh league defeat of the season.
