Scunthorpe boss sorry for ´Holocaust´ remark

Scunthorpe manager Brian Laws has issued a formal apology after he branded his team’s defending ‘as bad as the Holocaust’.

The 52-year-old made the comparison in a post-match interview immediately after his side’s 4-0 loss to local rivals Doncaster in League One.

But, in a week which saw two West Ham supporters arrested for anti-Semitic chanting toward Tottenham supporters, Laws has expressed regret over his ‘poor choice of language’.

“I would like to apologise,” he told the club’s official website.

“The use of the word was not intended to cause offence and was used in the heat of the moment.

“It was a poor choice of language to define those emotions and wasn’t meant in the true meaning of the word.”

The Board of Deputies of British Jews also released their own statement in relation to Laws’ comment and the anti-Semitic chants made by West Ham fans on Sunday.

It read: “Clearly there is either a lack of understanding or a lack of compassion within some sections of the British football world about these issues; a lack of understanding or compassion which needs to be addressed.”
