Lyon’s attacking midfielder Sidney Govou has been ruled out for the rest of the season after he tore his right Achilles tendon during training here on Wednesday, the seven-times French champions said.
The 29-year-old France international will soon undergo an operation and will not be back before the end of the season.
Govou, scorer of 10 goals in his 37 international appearances, has played 11 times in the league this season without scoring while he has played in four of their Champions League games, scoring once for the club that he has been with throughout his career.
In a further injury setback for Lyon, defender John Mensah has torn a left thigh muscle and will be out of action for three weeks.
