Seattle make way for Obafemi Martins

Seattle Sounders have announced on their official website that midfielder Christian Tiffert has been released from the squad.

The German midfielder had a contract until June 2014, but the club decided to buy out the remainder of his deal and relieve him from his duties.

The main reason for the release of their designated player was to accommodate the arrival of striker Obafemi Martins from Levante, as the Nigerian has already agreed to join the MLS side.

Christian Tiffert, 31, joined Seattle in a €500,000 deal from Kaiserslautern and he made a total of 16 league appearances during his first season at the club.

He has represented Stuttgart, Salzburg, Duisburg and Kaiserslautern prior to moving to the MLS and has scored 13 goals in 223 Bundesliga matches.

With Tiffert now a free agent, there is every chance that one of the Bundesliga strugglers will jump at the chance to sign such an experienced player.
