Seattle Seahawks safety Kam Chancellor was slapped with a US$40,000 fine on Friday for unnecessary roughness.

Chancellor was fined for hitting St. Louis Rams tight end Lance Kendricks in the head with his shoulder during the Seahawks’ 24-7 triumph on Sunday.

It was the second time in successive weeks that Chancellor has been fined, with the aggressive player fined US$20,000 last week after a helmet-to-helmet hit on Anquan Boldin of the Baltimore Ravens.

But Chancellor said he was just doing what he had been told after he was fined the first time.

“I just turned my head to the side like they asked me to do from the previous week and tried to do it with my shoulder, and when he fell down his head just went into my shoulder,” Chancellor told SB Nation Seattle.

“That’s the call that they were looking for to call so that’s what happened.”

The NFL also dished out US$25,000 fines to San Francisco 49ers’ Dashon Goldson and Von Miller of the Denver Broncos.
