Sergio Aguero signs new five-year deal at Man City

Manchester City F.C. forward Sergio Aguero has signed a new five-year deal with the English Premier League champions.

Manchester City F.C. forward Sergio Aguero has signed a new five-year deal with the English Premier League champions.

The Argentina international, who joined City from Atlético Madrid for €45 million in 2011, is now under contract at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2019.

Aguero has joined captain Vincent Kompany and David Silva in committing to City for the long-term, and understandably so.

Since arriving in Manchester, the 26-year-old Argentine has been one of the most prolific strikers in the Premier League, tallying 52 goals and 16 assists in 87 league appearances for City.

However, Aguero has — on several occasions — been linked with a return to Spain, with Real Madrid believed to be the front-runners for his signature, if he were to leave England.

“The reality seems to be that ever since I came here, during every close season, there have always been rumours suggesting that I might be returning to Spain,” Aguero said.

“There has always been this speculation but I certainly never pay much attention to it.

“People hear this stuff flying around and they take it seriously but I can tell the fans and everyone at City to relax, I’m going to be here until I see out my contract.

“I get to play in front of our amazing supporters every week, who give me so much strength and hunger to keep helping the team as best as I can.

“Each year, I aim to better the previous one. Last season was incredible but I’m not just satisfied with two Premier League titles, I want more and I can achieve them here alongside my teammates.

“This club is special; the fans, the stadium, the staff, the atmosphere, the new facility we’re moving into – everything!

“We have enjoyed lots of success and some incredible moments but the overall vision for the future and where we are going are the reasons why I wanted to stay here, to win trophies and to keep making history through my best years.”

Meanwhile, City have confirmed the sale of midfielder Javi Garcia to Russian Premier League giants Zenit St Petersburg for an undisclosed fee.

Garcia, formerly of Real Madrid and S.L. Benfica,  joins Zenit on a four-year deal and will link-up with new arrival Ezequiel Garay, Brazil international Hulk and new manager André Villas-Boas at the Petrovsky Stadium.

Manchester City are best-priced at 4/6 to open their 2014/15 Premier League account with a win over Newcastle United at St James’ Park.
