Bologna returned to winning ways with a surprise 2-1 victory over sixth-placed Fiorentina in Serie A on Tuesday.

Fiorentina took the lead through Adem Ljajic but failed to hold on as Marco Motta and Lazaros Christodoulopoulos found the net for the hosts.

Bologna climbed to 14th on the table with their eighth win of the season, while Fiorentina remain two points behind fifth-placed Inter Milan and a European berth.

Ljajic opened the scoring after 27 minutes with a calm finish on the back of a quick counter-attacking move.

But Bologna refused to give in, with Motta equalising in the 58th minute before Christodoulopoulos struck the winner with six minutes to go.

Next up for Bologna is 12th-placed Cagliari at home on Sunday, while Fiorentina entertain 15th-placed Chievo.
