Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone was trying to stay positive after his side were held to a 0-0 draw at Getafe on Sunday.

Atletico could have moved to within a point of second-placed Real Madrid with a win, but they could not find the back of the net at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez.

Although unhappy with the final result, Simeone was also keen to look at the positives in his side’s campaign.

“Well it has been a good season, we have to look at the fact we have about 60 points,” Simeone said.

“It is a very long season and we have to admit that our rivals have started to discover how to neutralise our game and stop us from being very effective.

“However, in spite of this we have won one and drawn two of our last three games and that is good form.

“I do accept though that we are not as sharp now as we were at the start of the season and this is why we have slipped down to third in La Liga. However I am still satisfied with the season as a whole.”

And Simeone refused to blame star striker Radamel Falcao for his side’s failure to score on Sunday.

“Rademal Falcao scored last week so I don’t think it is fair to criticise him and I don’t think he is doing badly,” he said.

“He is a vital player for us and he has contributed 22 goals to our teams this season. It is amazing what he is achieved so far this year.”
