Gordon Smith on Monday resigned as chief executive of the Scottish Football Association, the governing body announced.

The former Rangers striker departs after less than three years in the role for what the SFA said were personal reasons.

His resignation however came in the wake of a row over Smith’s involvement in disciplinary proceedings against Livingston striker Robbie Winters over allegations of diving.

Winters was last week cleared of the offence but Livingston chairman Gordon McDougall has demanded an investigation into Smith’s alleged encouragement of a complaint from East Stirling, the side Livingston were playing.
