Soldado could leave Valencia, says Djukic

Valencia coach Miroslav Djukic insists Roberto Soldado has not signed with Tottenham but admits he is unsure about the striker’s future.

There is growing speculation Tottenham are looking to lure Soldado to White Hart Lane.

Djukic says he wants to keep the 28-year-old but believes the club can still be a force if the prolific goalscorer does head to England.

“At the end of the day we have very good players, like Paco (Soldado),” Djukic said after his side’s 2-1 loss to AC Milan in the International Champions Cup opener in Valencia.

“Roberto scores 22 or 23 goals and guarantees that you’re always challenging, but I think that if he leaves others will come or we’ll be all right with what we’ve already got.

“We’ll go on and although we’ll miss him because he’s a great player, we have plenty of great players here.”

Pressed on whether Soldado has already done a deal with Spurs, Djukic replied: “No, not at all.

“Whatever happens, happens. I spoke to Roberto this morning and he’s a great professional.

“If he decides to leave, we’ll wish him all the best and if he decides to stay, we’ll be delighted because he is a great pro and can help us a lot.

“If he finally goes to Tottenham we wish him the best but we’ll keep working and will continue to be Valencia with or without him.

“Valencia is a big club. If Soldado leaves it will be a big loss but other players will come in and we’ll continue onwards.”

Djukic added of his side’s loss to AC Milan: “You always want to score and win games but it is always difficult to score against a team like Milan.

“We created a lot of chances tonight and we were a bit off the pace tonight.

“Some players a still not at 100 per cent fitness yet and are a bit off in front of goal.

“I was worried because of the first-half performance. We weren’t fresh and couldn’t create chances but that changed in the second half.”
