Southampton keen on Imbula; Goncalo Guedes on Valencia radar

Portuguese daily newspaper A Bola has learned that Southampton are hot on the trail of FC Porto hotshot Gianelli Imbula.

The Frenchman surprisingly snubbed interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs in favour of joining the Dragons in a €20 million move last summer.

But, the 23-year-old has utterly failed to justify the hefty price tag and following the poor showing against Dynamo Kiev, the midfielder was left out of the squad for Saturday’s fixture against Tondela.

With the Dragons considering cashing in on Imbula, it has been reported that Premier League outfit Southampton are closely monitoring the situation.

The Saints have been keeping close tabs on the France Under-21 international for a while now and they could soon be stepping up their interest.

Gianelli Imbula started seven league matches and another three Champions League fixtures since arriving from Marseille, but his displays have been well below par.

Goncalo Guedes on Valencia radar

Benfica wonderkid Goncalo Guedes is being linked with a summer switch to Valencia, O Jogo has suggested.

The 19-year-old has enjoyed a real breakthrough this season, having nailed down a regular starting berth at Estadio da Luz, while also earning his Portugal debut.

Premier League holders Chelsea were one of the first top clubs to show interest in his services, while the recent reports claim Valencia are keen as well.

Having signed quite a few players from Estadio da Luz in recent years, los Che are always closely following Benfica’s games, and Goncalo Guedes is the latest Eagles starlet that caught their eye.

It is believed that Valencia will attempt to lure him to Mestalla at the end of the season, although they would have to pay top dollar for one of Portugal’s hottest prospects.

Los Che will be in Copa del Rey action later today when they face Barakaldo on the road, with the Mestalla outfit 4/5 favourites to emerge victorious.

Toulouse set for shopping spree

Ligue 1 strugglers Toulouse have outlined the list of potential signings ahead of the upcoming transfer window, according to L’Equipe.

Le Tefece have enjoyed one of the worst starts to a league campaign in recent years and currently sit two points adrift of safety, having amassed mere 12 points from 15 games.

As a result, the club management are looking for ways to reinforce the key areas of the team, with at least three new players set to arrive at Stadium Municipal.

With neither Mauro Goicoechea nor Ali Ahamada impressing in goal, Toulouse are readying a January assault on Nicolas Douchez, who should be available for a nominal fee considering that his contract at Parc des Princes expires in June.

Le Tefece aim to reinforce the back line with Bruno Ecuele Manga, former Lorient defender who has struggled for playing time at Cardiff City.

Last but not least, Toulouse will attempt to lure Anderlecht’s Guillaume Gillet to Stadium Municipal, that is if they manage to pip the likes of Nantes and Caen to his signature.
