The Mirror has revealed that Middlesbrough has completed their first big summer transfer, the £3.2 million signing of Dutch forward Marvin Emnes from Sparta Rotterdam.

Sparta fans named him their Player of the Year last season. The 20 year old striker scored only 9 goals in 56 games in for Sparta. However what was astonishing about this statistic was that eight of those were in his last 10 games of the season. Ajax and Feyenoord were also interested but Middlesbrough ultimately won the race for Emnes’ services.
