Reports from the Daily Mail claim Middlesbrough manager Gareth Southgate has submitted a £3.5million bid for 27 year old, Reading midfielder James Harper.
Harper’s contract runs until 2010 but with Reading’s relegation at the end of last season, the player could be lured by the chance to play in the Premiership again.
Bolton and West Ham were also rumored to have shown an interest in the player but never gave an official statement.
