David Villa says Spain’s shock 1-1 draw with Finland will not change their attitude ahead of the crucial World Cup qualifier against France.

The reigning European and world champions are trailing France by two points following Friday’s results and desperately need victory on Tuesday.

However, Villa has made it clear that his side would have gone to Paris with the aim of bagging three points regardless of the result against Finland.

“This is a very bad result for us and we did not expect to spill points here,” Villa told reporters.

“However, this does not change our approach for the match in Paris. Regardless of the result of Friday’s game, we had set our sights on three points against France.”

Sergio Ramos, who received his 100th cap for Spain at the age of 26, put the hosts ahead but Schalke’s Teemu Pukki restored parity for the visitors 11 minutes before the end.

Villa admits the result was somewhat surprising but he is hoping to put it right against Didier Deschamps’ men on Tuesday.

“It is hard to grasp that we lost two points. We all realise that we have to bounce back right away and want to react against France,” he said.

Spain were held to a 1-1 draw in the home match against France as Olivier Giroud struck a last-gasp equaliser to

France top the group on 10 points, while Spain sit in second on eight.
