Celtic clinched their first Scottish Premier League title in four seasons after thumping Kilmarnock 6-0 at Rugby Park on Saturday.

When rivals Rangers were deducted 10 points for entering administration in February, Celtic were virtually assured of winning their 43rd league title.

And needing just a point to seal the title this weekend, victory was all but assured in the first half as the visitors raced to a four-goal lead thanks mainly to a scintillating display from Charlie Mulgrew.

The full-back scored twice and provided the assist for Glenn Loovens’ and Gary Hooper’s goals.

Joe Ledley and Hooper rubbed salt into the Kilmarnock wounds with two late goals to round off an emphatic win and kick-start the title celebrations.

Meanwhile, Ally McCoist’s Rangers at least ended the day with three points as Lee McCulloch, Andrew Little and Kyle Lafferty all netted in a 3-1 home success against St Mirren.

Rangers now sit nine points clear of third-placed Motherwell.

In other results, St Johnstone are fourth on the table after a goalless stalemate against Inverness Caledonian Thistle, Hearts won 2-1 at bottom-placed Dunfermline Athletic and Aberdeen beat Dundee United 3-1.
