Spurs and Man City in for Alderweireld

Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City are both eyeing a move for Southampton defender Toby Alderweireld, according to the Mail Online.

The Belgium international moved to St Mary’s last summer, and has so far racked up eighteen appearances in all competitions, scoring his one and only goal for the club so far in a 3-1 over Crystal Palace on Boxing Day.

Prior to his move to England, the 26 year old spent a year at Atletico Madrid where he won the La Liga title having begun his career with Ajax while he has been capped forty-three times for his country and featured at last summer’s World Cup finals in Brazil.

Spurs boss Maurico Pochettino is considering a move for Alderweireld, while Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini is also in the market for a new defender and could table a bid.

Southampton are currently four points off the top for and can now be backed at 8/1 to finish in the Champions League qualification places.
