Spurs considering £15m bid for Damiao; David Villa wants Arsenal move

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly preparing a £15 million bid for Brazil and Sport Club Internacional striker Leandro Damiao.

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly preparing a £15 million bid for Brazil and Sport Club Internacional striker Leandro Damiao, with Togolese talisman Emmanuel Adebayor set to take part in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa, The Telegraph understands.

Damiao, 23, has been a long-time transfer target of Spurs, who also completed a move for FC Schalke 04 No. 10 Lewis Holtby earlier this week.

Holtby, a Germany international, was subject to heavy interest interest from English Premier League giants Arsenal and Liverpool, but the Gunners’ bitter north London rivals were ultimately able to ink the player’s signature.

Now then, back to Damiao. The big, physical Brazilian striker has 14 international caps to his name, having bagged two goals for the Seleção.

Furthermore, the 23-year-old represented Brazil at the 2012 London Olympics, where he was the leading-scorer with six goals in five matches.

Tottenham have already approached Sport Club Internacional regarding Damiao, with the Brazilian outfit having rejected more than one Spurs offer for the player, according to reports.

Earlier this week, Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas confirmed the club’s rumoured interest in Brazilian duo Leandro Damiao and Willian of Shakhtar Donetsk.

“We got in touch with Willian [in the summer] and he is one of the players that interests us,” Villas-Boas told the Daily Mirror.

“I like his style, but we could not reach the value Shakhtar were asking. It does not mean we won’t try again. Shakhtar are a difficult club to negotiate with as they do not need the money and can keep their players.

“For Damião, he had a spectacular Olympics. We follow the best players and youngsters. Leandro fits this profile. He has had injuries after London 2012, but he is a player that is always on our list.”

David Villa wants Arsenal move

FC Barcelona forward David Villa would welcome a move to the Emirates Stadium amid reports that the Catalan club would accept a £16 million transfer fee for his services, according to the Daily Mail.

Villa, 31, has been kept of Barcelona’s first-team by Spanish compatriot Pedro, who bagged a first-half brace in the club’s 4-0 win over Espanyol at the Camp Nou on Sunday.

Both Villa and Alexis Sanchez have found playing time hard to come by this season, with Pedro and youngster Cristian Tello getting most of the spoils.

Villa has tallied eight goals in 20 competitive appearances for Barca in 2012-13, while Alexis has netted just one goal in 19 matches.

According to reports, Arsene Wenger has about £70 million to spend this month. Should the Frenchman spend 22.9% of his bankroll on 31-year-old Spain striker David Villa?

to be honest i think arsen just makes these speculations of him ‘attempting’ to sign players up as he makes un realistic bids and seems to always look for the cheaper option as he could of snapped up cahil for 8-9 mill but then failed to when he came up for transfer months later also we could of got mata as they wanted 1milion more than we bidded and he faied to sign also he dosnt know alot bout ‘buying’ great defenders as the evidence is in our squad and if you look at every great team in the world the all have a solid defence

Villa is a good player thou, the question here should be”would he adapt quickly to premier league,or hope his injury will not be resurfacing. It is in did a great mistake to see Demba ba sleep off our hand, but never theless even if AW will go for villa, then he should also get 1 attacker from premier league like:MICHU or FLETCHER,and also a midfielder like Yanga Mbiwa or other stronge 4.Wenger should please feel the pains of Arsenal fans and shop showing this attitude of i dont care.

Did someone just say that David Villa is better than Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes combined.U make me laugh,go and check what Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes have done in time past and even till date.Ryan Giggs in particular has been so instrumental to MAN U FC than u can compare him with VILLA.VILLA is the youngest of these three players and he is finding it difficult to bench a player like PEDRO in BARCELONA. I bet it with you that by the time VILLA is of GIGGS&SCHOLES’s age,he would have nothing meaningful to contribute to the world of football left alone make a name for himself.Do you think it a joke for the red army to always have it written on a banner season in season out that “Giggs would tear you apart”.Truely he has been tearing teams apart.Saturday was the most recent one with a sublime pass to RVP leading to United equaliser that has earned him a new contract at MAN U FC for one more year.Remember that GIGGS&SCHOLES have seen it all in the premier league even at their ages they are unpredictable.VILLA being an injury prone player but a good striker coming to England is welcome but i doubt if he would last long on the field of play because i can assure that his time would be with the medics at ARSENAL.He’s welcome to England.GIGGS and SCHOLES are both football MIRROR in the world of football.

Alternatively, if Damiao is available for 15 mill why can’t AW lock horns with Totenham? He will be useful in CL. He can also buy two players at 8 and 7 million to add quality to the bench as we have seen yesterday fruits from Podolski!

Paying 16 mill GBP for a 31 years-injury prone player is unrealistic. Buy Adrian Lopez who is cheaper than Villa, train one day of arsenal style of play, this is a good guy. Then bring in a defender (Mbiwa, may be), DM (M’Villa), (James McCathy to replace Arshavin?), Zaha deal is becoming complicated. Then this can be enough for January!

This nonsense if being 31 jus amazes me.
Giggs and Scoles a Utd are 38 and 39 years old.
Now tell me; do you think those 2 players have not contributed anything to Utd in the past 8 and 9 years?

Add to that the fact that Villa is a superior player to both Giggs and Scoles and can you still say Villa is expensive?

Arsenal do not have a single player on the team close to Villa in talent.

16 million? Get him now and don’t mess around before someone else gets him and he is scoring goals against us!

‘Prudent AW’ has not won a trophy for 7 yrs, Utd with a number of experienced players over 30 years have a well fed trophy cabinet. AW’s strategy of young players simply does not work, the proof is in the drought of trophies.

You are aware that Villa has scored 5 of the last 8 shots he has taken? Wenger spent 97 million in the last 2 transfer windows and there is no player on the Arsenal team anywhere close to that ratio of shots to goals.
16 million is chump change for Villa.
