Stoke set to bring in Given

Stoke City are closing in on the signing of Aston Villa goalkeeper Shay Given, according to the Express.

The Potters could be set to lose first choice shot-stopper Asmir Begovic this summer, with Premier League champions keen to sign the Bosnia and Herzegovina international as they seek a replacement for Petr Cech, who has joined Arsenal.

Stoke have Jack Butland as their current second choice, but are keen to bring in more experience and have moved for Given, who has four hundred and forty-three English top flight appearances across spells with Blackburn Rovers, Newcastle United, Manchester City and Villa.

Villa have also brought in a new keeper to prepare for Given’s potential departure after agreeing a deal for free agent Mark Bunn.

Given, who will turn forty before the end of next season, made his last appearance for Villa in the FA Cup final defeat to Arsenal back in May.
