Stones not leaving Manchester City

Sky Sports claim Manchester City will not be parting ways with John Stones this summer.

The former Evertonian hasn’t played for a while due to an abductor injury, and that has prompted some uninformed conclusions by some media outlets that the centre-back has no place in manager Pep Guardiola’s future plans. In his absence, club captain Vincent Kompany has mostly been joined by Nicolas Otamendi in the heart of the defence.

However, Sky Sports name the Manchester club itself as the source in saying Stones is very much in the plans for their title defence next season. Guardiola has revealed his recovery is going well and he hopes the centre-back, who will turn 24 next month, will appear in the last few games of the season and will be ready in time to make Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the World Cup this summer.

Since his arrival to the Etihad in 2016 as one of the most promising youngsters in English football, Stones has so far made 68 appearances for Manchester City.
