Stop Ars-ing around Arsene Wenger!

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger needs to starting bringing players this summer

I have to admit to my readers that I thought this summer was going to be different for Arsenal. I am not a Gooner, but I have a big appreciation for the way that the Gunners try to play the game.

Even as a neutral, I get frustrated with how the club is dragging their heels over transfer deals.

Right direction

A couple of weeks ago I wrote an article about how Arsenal was moving in the direction this summer. The reason for that article being that the Gunners looked close to sealing a deal for talented Real Madrid front man Gonzalo Higuain.

That deal did not materialise and so far this summer. Young French striker Yaya Sanogo remains the only player to have joined the Gunners this summer, much to the annoyance of Arsenal fans.

Ambitious

Everybody connected with Arsenal have been declaring from the rooftops this summer that the Gunners would finally spend some cash. I thought oh here we go Arsenal are going to finally splash some cash, but it is the same old story once again for Arsenal fans, lots of talk and no action.

Big targets

Arsenal have been linked with massive names this summer, from Higuain to Wayne Rooney and Luis Suarez. Some may say that these were realistic targets, but I never really got the feeling that Arsenal believed they would sign a Rooney or a Suarez.

Higuain was looking like a distinct possibility, until five days ago when Real Madrid president Florentino Perez claimed that the Gunners had not even made an offer for the Argentinian striker, despite reports that the two clubs had agreed a fee of around £23million.

The signing of Higuain would have been a game changer for Arsenal. The Argentinian would have been considered a marquee signing, a cut-above the mid-level players that Gunners have signed in recent windows, Santi Cazorla apart that is.

Signing Higuain would have shown Arsenal fans that the clubs hierarchy do actually want to win things and are not just happy finishing in fourth place. Mr Wenger no matter how much you lobby the FA they will not give you a trophy for finishing in fourth place in the Premier League!

‘Ars-ing Arsene’

As I believe I have mentioned previously, Everton fans had the nickname of ‘Dithering Davy’ for David Moyes when he was at Goodison Park. This was because he took so long to complete his transfer deals and was so cautious in the market.

Maybe Gooners should give Arsene Wenger the nickname ‘Ars-ing Arsene’ because he seems to mess about when it comes to bringing players in, just like Mr Moyes.

Economics

Everybody knows that Arsene Wenger is an economist, but surely he would like players with the talent of Luis Suarez or Gonzalo Higuain in his team? I have always wondered wherever it was Wenger wary of spending money, or the Gunners board would not allow him to spend money.

This summer’ transfer activity, or lack of it points the finger at the veteran French boss. We all know that Wenger has kept Arsenal in the top four for the last 15 years, but surely he wants to be competing for the Premier League title again before he leaves the club?

Spending big amounts of money does not guarantee a club a title, but it helps you buy better players, just ask Chelsea and Manchester City. It is simple Arsene. You need to speculate to accumulate.

The current squad at Arsenal is nowhere near good enough to challenge for the Premier League title next season, and that is where a big club like Arsenal should be, challenging for the big trophies. They should not be celebrating finishing fourth, as if they have won a cup.

Chance

Next season is a chance for the Gunners to capitalise on the changes at some of the other big clubs in the Premier League and really make a statement. This is a chance not to be missed. There will probably never be another season where Chelsea, Manchester City, and Manchester United all change their bosses.

Arsene would you stop ars-ing around and bring in some quality players, or next season could be a bit like Groundhog Day. I feel like Bill Murray is going to turn up at the Emirates any day now. Therefore, please Arsene Wenger put Arsenal fans out of their misery and bring in some quality players this summer.

Can Arsenal attract any big name signings this summer?

Well, you do not have to support every bad decision Arsenal makes to be a Die Hard Arsenal supporter…
I am a Manchester United fan through and through, but I honestly agree that this is the BEST chance Arsenal has to finally clinch something because once ‘City settle down with their stars; once Jose cements his squad; once Man Utd resume doing what they do, then I’m afraid you guys may never win a Championship…
While its a good idea not to fall to pressure and start spending just because others do so, the world-class players are ALL leaving and they are all achieving trophies Arsenal has failed to reach (Thierry Henry, Cesc Fabregas, Samir Nasri, Robin Van Persie…).
Well simple math will show you that a squad becomes weaker when its star players leave; even more so when they do not have adequate replacements

Dave Highbury, I know that ‘Dithering Davy’ is now at Manchester United, that is why I put when he was at Goodison Park.

Which players exactly has he brought in at Old Trafford since his arrival?

Oh and what does “this is how do” mean? Did you also mean that Arsenal need just one or two players?

Arsenal Steve, you make a good point about David Dein. He was the best allie that Wenger could ask for and Wenger doesn’t have that sort of person on the Gunners board.

Jerry, it is hard to believe that the Gunners haven’t won silverware for so long. It is a major pity.

Good article and I agree, as a fan I was pretty excited about the higuain ‘signing’ but it’s all come to nothing. We need to be showing a lot more intent if we are to win trophies…that fa cup win seems a while ago now.

It seems that some insiders working at the club are saying that the archaic structure at the club does not allow many transfer dealings to happen at the same time. With both Wenger and Gazidis on the tour of Asia there’s no one to do much work on transfers. In the old days David Dein would meet transfer targets. Players nowadays are not given the feeling they are ‘wanted’. With the oldest board in football, there are no young executives to do dealings. In reality Wenger had become Arsenal’s very own. Mr Bean. If it looks like Mr Bean, behaves like Mr Bean and talks like Mr Bean, it is Mr Bean. Truth is Arsenal can’t buy the big boys. They don’t have anyone to do it properly. That’s the real truth.

“Dithering David Moyes” is now the manager of Man United. We only need one or players, so we need to get it right. This is not “Arsing”. This is how do.

Yet another “knowing” article from a fan who like all of us wants big signings but who cannot possibly know what negotiations are underway or with whom.

Do you really think AW is not working on this?!
