Andrea Stramaccioni has revealed that John Carew will have a trial with Inter before they decide on whether to offer him a permanent deal.
The Giuseppe Meazza side are keen to add some fresh blood to their attack following Diego Milito’s season-ending knee injury, and they have identified the 33-year-old Carew as a possible replacement.
Earlier reports suggested that Carew was on the verge of signing a contract until the end of the season, but the experienced attacker will have to prove his worth first.
“I think that with Milito’s injury the club wanted to look around to see if there’s a certain type of player who might fit our purposes,” Stramaccioni told the club’s official website.
“Obviously we’re talking about free agents within a certain date, so the options are limited.
“Our directors have identified that type of player in Carew and now he’s going to have a trial with us, then we’ll decide whether to sign him or not.
“It’s a fairly normal procedure in other countries.”
Carew previously wore the jerseys of clubs such as Valencia, Roma and Aston Villa. He has been without a club ever since leaving West Ham last summer.
