Stramaccioni hoping to end season on a high

Inter boss Andrea Stramaccioni has urged his squad to end the season strongly in order to take momentum into the next campaign.

The San Siro outfit languish in eighth place in the Serie A standings and have lost five of their last six fixtures in the league amid a mounting injury list.

However, ahead of meetings with Genoa and Udinese which will bring the campaign to a close, the Italian has called for a final flourish.
“Yesterday (Friday) the president (Massimo Moratti) and I analysed the things that haven’t gone well and that we mustn’t repeat,” he said.

“We need to close out the season on a high. We’ve lost our last few games despite playing well in what’s a tough moment.

“There’s no denying that the situation we’ve been in for the last two months puts you at a disadvantage. (But) the players have shown they want to give their all for the shirt and for our fans, despite the difficulties.”

Stramaccioni went on to reveal that his injury-hit squad has taken some additional blows ahead of Sunday’s fixture at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

“(Mateo) Kovacic has played a lot and done well in recent games. He’s a bit jaded but wants to play tomorrow,” he continued.

“(Antonio) Cassano is returning to fitness. He’s not 100 percent yet but he could play a part on Sunday. (Cristian) Chivu isn’t fit. When he tried to push himself yesterday, he felt pain.”

The 37-year-old also took time to praise the club’s young players, including those who have spent parts of the season away from the San Siro.

“(Simone) Pasa showed against Lazio that he knows how to handle himself,” he added. “(Fred) Duncan and (Samuel) Longo have proven their worth while out on loan. They’re both good prospects for Inter’s future
“We’ve laid some good groundwork. The president is the only one who decides who is to carry this project forward.”
