Stramaccioni seeking change of fortune

Inter Milan coach Andrea Stramaccioni is desperate to turn his side’s form slump around, starting with Sunday’s clash with Chievo.

Inter are without a win in three Serie A matches, and for the first time this season have fallen behind bitter rivals AC Milan in the league table.

Both sides are 12 points leaders Juventus, and Stramaccioni wants to use last weekend’s 3-1 humbling at the hand of lowly Siena as a watershed moment in their season.

“I think that the game we played in Siena represented a sort of turning point for us, and from that point on we said, ‘it’s enough, now let’s come back to being Inter’,” Stramaccioni said.

“That’s what I think, that’s what my players think and the president too.

“We’ve gone through a difficult period, we didn’t play well in some games, we are the first to admit that, but now let’s go back to being Inter, let’s go back to doing what made us competitive and close to the top teams.

“That’s my idea, I’m convinced of it, I’m determined and sure of it.”

But Stramaccioni knows his team will not have it easy when they welcome Chievo to San Siro on Sunday.

“Chievo had already proved in the first game (which Inter won 2-0 in September) they’re a very well organised team and the new coach (Eugenio) Corini has found a consistency of performances in the last three games with them,” he said.

“After the defeat to Bologna, Chievo have been proving they’re a tough opponent to beat, with the victory in Rome and with the draw to Juventus. They’re definitely an opponent to respect.”
