Liverpool’s Luis Suarez will not travel to Old Trafford to support former club Ajax in their last-32 Europa League tie against Manchester United.
Reports had surfaced this week that Suarez, who received an eight-game ban from the FA for racially abusing United defender Patrice Evra earlier in the season, could be in attendance to support former club Ajax.
However, Ajax’s manager of communications Miel Brinkhuis has claimed the Dutch outfit have not invited Suarez, but said it is possible an Ajax squad member did.
“Luis was not invited by us, the club Ajax, unlike John Heitinga. The defender will sit in the VIP deck along with our other guests,” Brinkhuis told Sp!ts.
“It could have been possible that a player like Jan Vertonghen invited Suarez to the match. I understood from other people that Suarez will not be attending at the match at Old Trafford.”
“I have asked someone about his status and he replied: ‘No it’s not my plan to visit the game.’”
Suarez caused controversy recently when he failed to shake Evra’s hand when the two met during Liverpool’s 2-1 defeat at Old Trafford, in their first clash since the race row.
