Manchester United have sold Pique this summer with the belief that youngster Jonny Evans would be able to take the Spaniard’s place in the squad. Recent reports, however, suggest that Evans himself could also be heading for the exit door at Old Trafford.
The Irish defender has enjoyed two loan spells at Sunderland, where he impressed immensely. Now, Roy Keane wants to make the strong defender part of his new-look squad after missing out on Tottenham’s Kaboul, according to The Daly Mail.
Keane is reported to prepare a £6 million bid plus clauses for Evans which might temp Sir Alex Ferguson into selling.
Evans might also be open to a move to Sunderland as he surely must be aware that he would have limited first team action at Old Trafford, given the quality that Sir Alex Ferguson has in that department.
