Ten-man Monaco held by Bordeaux

Monaco failed to arrest their slump in form as they were held 2-2 at home by Bordeaux here on Tuesday in a match originally postponed on Sunday because of appalling weather in the region.

The point was not enough to lift the 2004 Champions League finalists out of the bottom three and leaves them with just one win in their last 11 league matches with their two goals ending a goal drought in the league stretching back six games.

One of their goals came from Mathieu Coutadeur, who blotted his copybook by being sent off six minutes from time.

Monaco coach Guy Lacombe — who guided them to the French Cup final last season — said his side were lacking in good fortune and were desperately in need of an injection of confidence.

“I am torn between the good reaction of my players and the frustration at not winning,” said the 55-year-old former Sochaux, Rennes and PSG handler.

“It feels like we’ve dropped two points.

“The sending-off of Coutadeur? It was a pretty severe decision. But at the same time, you have to use your head.

“We have to improve. We have to gain in confidence. I hope that will happen. We are in the middle of a black period, and we have to come out of it.

“We will do it together. And you will see that will happen.”
