Terry set to end England exile

However, with the chairman set to step down when he turns 70 in May, Terry is believed to be reconsidering his decision to call time on his international career.

Any potential return for Terry, who last played for England against Moldova in September, may well cause problems for Rio Ferdinand who is believed to still feel aggrieved at the treatment of his brother.

Rio himself has made limited appearances for the national team in recent months with the Manchester United defender being omitted from Roy Hodgson’s Euro 2012 squad for “football reasons” a month before Terry’s trial.

He also withdrew from England’s World Cup qualifiers in San Marino and Montenegro as his personal fitness plan did not fit in with the training schedule of the national side, while the United man is also thought to have a fractious relationship with England regular and Terry’s club-mate Ashley Cole.

While Terry, is thought to be eyeing a return to the national side, he has struggled to find a regular spot in the Chelsea line-up in recent months.

He has only made nine starts for the London club this season thanks partly to a knee injury sustained in November and interim boss Rafael Benitez preferring to opt for the likes of David Luiz, Branislav Ivanovic and Gary Cahill in his Premier League backline.

If Terry does return to the England fold, he could be back in time for the friendly against the Republic of Ireland at Wembley on May 29th and Brazil in Rio de Janeiro on June 2nd.
