Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez says Gonzalo Higuain is wrongly criticised at Real Madrid and has already proved his worth in the past.

Higuain, currently sidelined due to injury, has scored over 100 goals for Real since joining the club from River Plate in January 2007, yet he has often been criticised for his profligacy in front of goal.

“Higuain has been playing very well for Madrid. There’s no reason he should be criticised,” Tevez was quoted as saying by Marca.

“He scores a lot of goals at Real. I don’t think he has the same confidence that he had before, but when he comes onto the pitch he plays and does very well.”

The 24-year-old has scored seven goals in 10 La Liga appearances this campaign.
