Juventus signing Carlos Tevez believes the Serie A champions are capable of challenging for the Champions League title.

The Argentine signed for Antonio Conte’s men from English Premier League side Manchester City for a reported £12million.

While they claimed a second straight league title last season, Juve fell short in Europe – losing to Champions League winners Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals.

But Tevez, 29, said the Italian giants could improve on that result and be a force in the Champions League this season.

“Our main aim this season is to win the Scudetto once more and I believe we have the team to achieve that at Juventus,” he said.

“To win a third Scudetto in a row is very important to the club and will go down in history.

“However, it will also be important to be competitive in the Champions League and we feel we can do that.”

Tevez said he had been surprised by the welcome he had received from Juventus fans, and the Argentina forward is looking forward to delivering for his new club.

“I didn’t expect so much passion for me in Juventus. The fans have really welcomed me to their club and that’s very important for me,” he said.

“Wearing a Juventus jersey is a great responsibility for any player and one which many players want to achieve.

“I will work hard to get the best possible results for this team.”

Tevez received special praise from team-mate Arturo Vidal, who said the club’s new signing had already shown he was their ‘strongest player’.

“I have great respect for Carlos Tevez and admire his ability. I’ve seen him play in various teams and he’s always been one of the best players in those teams,” Vidal said.

“Even when he played for Boca Juniors in Argentina he was one of the best players in the country and now that he’s here I think he’s the strongest player in Juventus.”
