Thiago Silva will honour his contract at Paris Saint-Germain and not sign for Barcelona, according to his agent.
The Brazilian played a key role in PSG’s first title success since 1994 last season and although rumours of a move to Barcelona began to surface, his agent Paulo Tonietto was quick to distance his client from a move.
The defender signed a five-year contract with the French club in July 2012 and immediately became an integral part of the side alongside Alex in defence.
He made 31 appearances last term and scored a goal on his debut in their UEFA Champions League clash with Dynamo Kiev.
“Thiago Silva is a player of the Paris Saint-Germain, he has a contract and he will comply,” Tonietto told the club’s official website.
“Rumours are present today as they were last year, but Thiago Silva is a player of Paris Saint-Germain and he will go to the end of his contract with his club.”
The 28-year-old capped a successful campaign with victory in the FIFA Confederations Cup and although changes are expected at the Parc des Princes under new coach Laurent Blanc, it appears that the club captain will not be one of those leaving.
