(GSM) – Gérard Houllier is reportedly set to reunite with his former Liverpool assistant Phil Thompson when confirmed as Aston Villa’s new manager.
Thompson has worked as a pundit with Sky Sports for the past six years right after leaving his post at Anfield, where he had forged a partnership with Houllier.
Thompson has great experience in the English game, having won three European Cups and seven league titles as a player and winning 42 England caps.
Houllier is set to meet French Football Federation president Fernando Duchaussoy on Wednesday in order to confirm his departure from his national post.
“I will meet Wednesday to take stock of the situation with him [Houllier], I’ll ask him,” Duchaussoy told reporters. “I would like to continue working with him.”
If all goes to plan for Villa, Houllier should be unveiled at a press conference on Thursday and could manage the side in their Premier League clash with Stoke City on Monday.
