Bayern Munich midfielder Toni Kroos has been Linked with a summer move to Manchester United

Bayern Munich are set to host Premier League Arsenal in the Champions League second leg last-16 tie this evening.

In that Bayern side could be a relatively young German midfielder that could be heading to the English top-flight in the summer, if recent reports are to be believed.

Speculation

Speculation and rumours have Toni Kroos linked with a move to the Premier League, with Manchester United supposedly his most likely destination.

At a press conference yesterday Kroos was asked about his future and the German star replied:

“Nothing has been decided about my future, it’s no secret the Premier League is an option for me. No one has come to any agreement and it will stay like this until the summer.

“I think that anything is possible for me if I leave. I have to think about this for myself, and make the right decision. I’ve heard that people have written that I might go to England. But there’s nothing new from my point of view.

“The situation is that I don’t have any agreement right at the moment [at Bayern]. On the other side there is no agreement in place anywhere.”

Unclear

He may not have a ruled out a move to the Premier League, but he never actually stated that he wanted to leave Bayern. The midfielder is obviously keeping his cards close to his chest until the summer. It seems like he would be crazy to leave Bayern at this point in time, but the decision soon may not be his to make.

New contract

Speculation from Germany suggests that this talk about a move to England is a tactic for Kroos to earn himself a bigger contract in Munich. The Bavarian giants are keen to keep the German international playmaker, but seem to be prepared to lose Kroos if his contract demands are too steep.

Kroos’ contract expires in 2015, but talks about a contract extension have yet to take place, leading to speculation that Bayern may sell the midfielder in the near future.

Outstanding

Toni Kroos is part of the current crop of outstanding young Germany players currently performing in the Bundesliga. He is seen as one of the leading lights of that crop and played a key role in Bayern’s 2-0 Champions League victory over Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium two weeks ago.

Kroos scored the opening goal for Bayern in that first leg Champions League last-16 tie and completely ran the show against a very decent Arsenal midfield. His passing skills and control of the ball allowed Bayern to keep the Gunners pegged back in their own area, albeit playing against ten men for an hour.

Kroos is the sort of clever midfielder that is a major commodity in the game in modern football. The 24-year-old has the ability to control the game from a midfield position. His ability has apparently attracted interest from the Premier League with the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea also linked with a move for Kroos, but it seems that United is his most likely destination.

Interested

According to Toni Kroos’ brother Felix, the pair have talked about the possibility of the Bayern star playing for Manchester United. Kroos has even suggested that United not qualifying for the Champions League would not stop him moving to Old Trafford.

With United struggling to qualify for the Champions League for next season, Red Devils boss David Moyes is expected to make major changes to his playing squad and Kroos appears to be top of the Scot’s summer wishlist.

United have been linked with a £25million move to the reigning English champions. With his contract expiring in 18 months, Bayern could be open to the player moving on this summer.

Manchester United have been crying out for a creative midfielder for the last few seasons, despite the January addition of Spain international playmaker Juan Mata from Chelsea. Toni Kroos could offer the creativity that Red Devils fans have been learning for from their midfield.

Good addition

Should Toni Kroos decide to make the switch to the Premier League, whether that is to United or any other team, the Germany international would definitely be a stellar addition to a league which last summer lost one of its biggest stars in Gareth Bale.

The Premier League can only remain popular while there are star players plying their trade in it. At the moment there seems to be a dearth of truly star names in the English top-flight. Toni Kroos has the potential to be a truly star name and it is an exciting prospect the midfielder playing in the English top-flight.

That scenario now seems very to be possible. Bayern do not seem to be prepared to give the Germany international a new bumper contract, so Kroos may just find himself starring in the Premier League next season, which can only be good for the English top-flight.

Could Toni Kroos be heading for the Premier League?
