Tottenham to pip Arsenal in Holtby chase; Bayern announce Kirchhoff signing

hot-transfer-newsTottenham to pip Arsenal in Holtby chase

German daily Bild reports that Tottenham have made an official bid to sign Schalke starlet Lewis Holtby.

Holtby, 22, has earlier admitted his interest in moving to English Premier League and Arsenal were believed to be leading the race for the player’s signature.

Arsene Wenger yesterday confirmed he had been keeping tabs on the Germany international, but it appears that Tottenham could steal the midfielder in front of their rivals’ noses.

Bild reports that Spurs officials have met the player’s representatives in Qatar and presented their offer, which includes a £3.5m annual salary and £500,000 signing on fee.

Tottenham hope to sign Holtby on a free transfer when his contract expires in the summer, and that is a realistic option given that the midfielder has no intention to sign a new deal at Veltins Arena.

Schalke have already come to terms with losing their prized asset after he rejected their final offer of €3m per season.

Lewis Holtby is widely regarded as one of the most talented midfielders in world football and has been in fine form this season, scoring 3 goals and setting up another 5 in 17 Bundesliga appearances.

Bayern announce Kirchhoff signing

Bayern Munich have announced that they have agreed to sign Mainz defender Jan Kirchhoff.

The talented defender, who has six months left on his current deal, will join the Bavarians on a free transfer in the summer.

Kirchhoff, 22, has put pen to paper to a three-year contract as the German giants beat Borussia Dortmund, Schalke and Juventus to the player’s signature.

“We are very pleased to have been able to sign this highly talented Germany Under-21 international,” Bayern chief Matthias Sammer told reporters in the training camp in Qatar.

The highly rated centre-back has thus become club’s first signing for the 2013/2014 season, with his arrival likely to mean that Daniel van Buyten will be leaving Alianz Arena.

Kirchhoff has made a total of 51 Bundesliga appearances for Mainz, although he started just 6 of club’s 17 league fixtures this season.

Newcastle line up Remy to replace Ba

According to Radio Monte Carlo, Newcastle United are set to launch an assault on Marseille striker Loic Remy.

With star striker Demba Ba set to complete his move to Chelsea, Magpies boss Alan Pardew is keen to add another high-quality striker to the squad in January.

Radio Monte Carlo understands that the Magpies plan to invest the money from Demba Ba’s sale into Marseille striker Loic Remy.

The Frenchman has made it clear that he wants to continue his career in English Premier League, with QPR and Tottenham also keen.

However, it is believed the 26-year-old prefers a move to St James Park, with a number of his international teammates already there.

Remy is still far from his best having missed the start of the season through injury, but Alan Pardew is prepared to take a gamble providing the price is right.

Earlier today Newcastle have announced the capture of France international full-back Mathieu Debuchy.
