Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure has insisted his side are still in the Premier League title race.

Roberto Mancini’s men defeated Chelsea 2-0 at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday to keep pace with their local rivals, but a 12-point gap between themselves and United makes the latter huge favourites to lift a record 20th league title in May.

However Toure, who netted the opener against Chelsea, has insisted City’s attempts to retain the crown are not in vain and urged his team-mates to kick on with 11 games left to make up the deficit.

“We have to keep on going and try and win all our games because we know United are in the top spot,” he told City’s official TV station CityTV.

“We needed 12 wins and we have to keep on going because we don’t know the future and you can’t say it is finished.

“For the football club and the fans, you can’t give up now. We have 11 games remaining and in sport you never know what can happen in the future.”

Toure did, however, admit that of the two Manchester clubs, it was City who faced the more difficult run of fixtures from now until the end of the season.

He added: “We know we have a big calendar, more difficult than them, but we have to keep on going and try and win matches and not let any points (slip).”
