Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets has received a two-match UEFA Champions League ban following his dismissal against Benfica.

The Spain international was shown a direct red card by Turkish referee Cuneyt Cakir after allegedly lashing out at an opponent in the Catalans’ 2-0 victory over the Portuguese side last week.

UEFA’s control and disciplinary body announced the decision to suspend Busquets for two games on Wednesday.

The 24-year-old will miss the home clash with Celtic on October 23 as a result, and will also sit out the return match two weeks later.

Barcelona sit atop Group G with six points from two games, with Celtic second on four points.
