Second-placed Al Ahli missed the chance to close the gap on leader Al Ain as they were beaten 1-0 by Dibba Al Fujairah.

Al Ahli were expected to get past their 13th placed opponents but they were unable to break them down and the hosts took the lead through Alexssander Medeiros in the 18th minute.

Dibba Al Fujairah then defended resolutely and recorded their fifth victory of the season, moving them six points clear of bottom placed Kalba.

Al Jazira took advantage of Al Ahli’s slip-up as they beat Al Shaab 2-0 at home thanks to goals from Brazilian captain Ricardo de Oliveira and Fernandinho.

They had to wait to get the opening goal though, Oliveira pouncing just before the hour to put his side ahead and the win was confirmed when Fernandinho grabbed a second with four minutes to play.

Fifth-placed Al Nasr were upset in their away fixture at Ajman’s Rasheed bin Saeed stadium, their fourth away defeat of the season. Ajman captain Boris Kabi struck twice to give the hosts the lead, the first in the 45th minute and the second eight minutes after the restart, and although Takayuki Morimoto scored a consolation for Al Nasr in the 85th minute the home side were able to hold on and record their eighth win of the season.

Bottom-of-the-table Kalba were involved in a five goal thriller against Al Shabab, but fell to their 11th away defeat of the season as they were beaten 3-2.

The visitors took the lead through Abdulaziz Ismail in the 31st minute and they managed to hold on until the 63rd minute. Al Shabab substitute Sanad Ali brought them level in the game, and three minutes later Essa Obaid had put them ahead.

The hosts completed an excellent 15 minute spell when Rashid Hassam added a third goal and put the result beyond doubt. Saeed Obaid did add a second for Kalba in the closing minutes but it was too late for them to mount a comeback.

Al Wasl were comfortable 3-1 winners over Dubai, racing into a three nil lead after 71 minutes thanks to goals from Khalifa Abdulla, Achille Emana and Yaser Salem. Rodrigo did get a late goal back for Dubai but they slipped to their tenth defeat of the season.

Al Wahda overcame Al Dhafra in a mid-table clash in round 24 of fixtures. Marcelinho fired the Al Wahda into a two-goal lead inside the opening 30 minutes and although Anas Bani Yaseen was able to pull one goal back, Al Dhafra were not able to find another and the visitors clung on to all three points.
