Udinese have confirmed that new signing Carlos Javier Acuna is to be loaned to Watford for the coming season.

Both clubs are owned by the Pozzo family and last season the Championship side took a number of players on loan from the Stadio Friuli, with a statement on the Serie A outfit’s website confirming that the Paraguayan striker will move for the full campaign.

The arrangement caused controversy last season with Crystal Palace boss Ian Holloway lending his voice to a chorus of disapproval over what he deemed to be an exploitation of the loan market.

After the season, the Football League decided to limit the number of loanees in any match-day squad to five, with four from any one club.

Caballero hit 21 goals in 56 games for Spanish side Girona and will be tasked with helping Gianfranco Zola’s men reach the Premier League after suffering play-off heartbreak last season.

Watford were beaten by 1-0 Palace in the final at Wembley thanks to a Kevin Philips penalty.
