Unique Iniesta learnt from me, jokes Luis Enrique

Barcelona head coach Luis Enrique labelled Andres Iniesta as “unique” and jokingly claimed he taught him everything he knows.

The LaLiga champions put in a devastating display to start their Champions League campaign with a 7-0 win over Celtic at Camp Nou.

Iniesta came on as a second half substitute and scored a wonderful volley for Barca’s fourth and displayed his trademark range of passing.

And Luis Enrique paid tribute to the Spain international’s continuous evolution.

“Those passes and those volleys and that turn he took it from me. It is clearly my influence,” he joked.

“[Iniesta] is a unique player. He has been able to adapt to playing different styles.”

Luis Enrique also hailed the impact of close-season signing Samuel Umtiti, who has made a seamless transition since joining from Lyon in what has been traditionally a weak point at centre-back for Barca.

“Umtiti’s adaption has surprised me a little because he has adapted really quickly to a position where the club has always had difficulties,” he added.

“It’s only four or five games, but he’s played completely adapted. We need to be careful to judge the new players, though.”
