United to move for Varane

Manchester United are ready to make a £25m move for Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane, according to the Express.

Louis van Gaal has been on the lookout for a new centre-back, and has identified the France international to fill the void.

The United manager has been forced to bring a number of youth players in to his first team in this, his first season at Old Trafford with Paddy McNair and Tyler Blackett racking up twenty league appearances between them, with the combined age of just thirty-nine.

Varane, who is only twenty-one himself, moved to Real from Ligue One side Lens in the summer of 2011, and his next appearance will be his one hundredth for the club in all competitions.

In three-and-a-half years in the Spanish capital, he has won the league title, the Spanish cup, the Champions League and the FIFA World Club Cup while he has seventeen caps for his country.
